Taking your Driving Test
After taking preliminary driving lessons to make yourself familiar with the rules of the road and the controls of your vehicle, you will hopefully be in a position where you feel confident enough to apply for and take the all important driving test.
There are a couple of key rules that you need to remember before you take the test itself. One of the first and most important is that you will not be able to attempt the driving test until you have possessed your provisional licence for at least six months. This is important to remember when you are applying for your test as you will still have to pay the booking fee, even if you cannot attend the test even for legal reasons. It is also now required, as part of the new regulations instated upon April 4th 2011 that each person issued their learned permit after April 4th 2011 requires at least twelve driving lessons before they take the test.
For this reason you will have a considerable amount of driving experience before you take the test. However you may wish to apply for some extra driving lessons just before you take the test to make sure you have the knowledge and experience required. Many drivers can accidently pick up bad habits while driving, which can lead to you being heavily penalised during the actual test. For this reason acquiring extra lessons to brush up on the strictest rules of the road can be a good idea.
When it comes to actually applying for the test you may have certain reservations and questions, be sure to talk these through with your instructor. They will have the experience required to answer them both effectively and reassuringly.
They will point out to you when you apply for the test that if you say that you are available to take a cancellation you can get as little as one week’s forewarning that you are taking the test. However this may be preferable to waiting months on end to actually take your test.
There are a few important tips your instructor should review before you take the actual test. These include:
Parking, three point turns, pausing upon a hill, breaking, the correct distances in between cars. Also be aware that even though you have taken the theory test and passed it, you will still get asked theory in your driving test, so you will need to review your old theory test books too.
To get those all-important review lessons before you take your test you might want to look at Drivetime Tralee Driving School, based in Tralee Drivetime Driving School is a reputable service and a benefit is that their first hour of driving lessons is free.
